My son-in-law is a civilian who works for the U.S. Navy as a water resources program manager in Italy. Each month the fleet and family support center sends out a calendar of the best “Local Festivals in Campania.” Naples, or Napoli, is located in the region of Campania. Looking at the calendar for October that he and Ari forwarded to us in Hawaii, I see we will not be there in time for the gathering of Air Balloons that come from all over Europe to South Italy, and we will miss the Mushroom Festival, but several other possibilities of things to do are left:

Cioccolateano (Chocolate festival). Chocolate show, food stands, musical events in the historical center of Teano. Oct. 13-14.

Mostra di Farfalle (Butterfly exhibit). Oct. 14. I think Miss Marvelous will like this one.

Sagra della Castagna (Chestnut festival). Held in many towns, every weekend starting Oct. 13-14, in the mountains of Campania. While enjoying a ride in the beautiful green countryside we can enjoy regional specialties from hot roasted chestnuts to pastries, to pizza and pasta made with chestnut flour.

Sagra della Castagna e del Taratufo nero (Chestnut and Black Trufle festival) adds another dimension, celebrating the biggest chestnut and trufle with concerts, samplings, and contests. Oct. 26-28.

Neapolitan Antique Fair. Advertised as huge event in the beautiful gardens of Villa Comunale. Antique and modern furniture, arts and crafts, collectors’ items. Oct. 20, 21, 27, 28.

I’m there!
