A mile or so from the house is the Flavian Amphitheater in Pozzuoli, the second oldest – only the Colosseum in Rome is older – and the third, possibly second, largest. My lens wasn’t wide enough to capture the whole footprint, but Travis was able to stitch three horizontal frames together for a panoramic view.

This amphitheater’s basement is the only one intact. Little Ayla thought it was a great place to play hide ’n’ seek with Pete. She wasn’t afraid of the darkness.

In my photos you’ll see large columns on their sides on the ground. These originally were at the top of the structure that was three times the height of today’s elevation.
